Tops and Bottoms Craft and Printables

Looking for an adorable craft to go along with Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens?  You students can do both or pick a character to make.  Vegetable parts (edible and non-edible parts) are included to match with each character.  I created two resources on tpt... one with just the craft and another one with printable resources included.  some of the extra included resources are: sequencing cards and writing responses.  Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what's included:

Tops and Bottoms

Isn't this book just the cutest?  I created some google slide activities to go with it.  All the slides are geared towards building their comprehension (sequencing, comprehension quick check, character traits, using evidence, favorite part, cause and effect, opinion writing, text to self connections, and vegetable sorting)

Click here to take you to my resource:

Here are some sample pics of the slides I created...

This is an amazing tool to have when planting seeds (TIP:  carrots take a long time to grow big, so do what I did... buy a carrot at the grocery store and throw it in towards the end! :). )

This is similar to the one I have on amazon.  Click on the product to bring you to the amazon link:

HSP Nature Toys Root-Vue Farm Multicolor, 16 Inch

Here are some more that I would think about purchasing for the classroom:

And this:

EDUCATIONAL INSIGHTS Sprout & Grow Window

and I'm totally getting this.... so cool!

End of the Rainbow Paper Plate Twirlers

I love these twirly rainbows that we made!  They came out so super cute!  We added our three wishes in a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  I might leave them and have the kids replace the pot of gold and shamrock with clouds, add some weather facts, and hang them the opposite way!

Thanks for stopping by!

March Door Decoration

I wish I covered the ugly, old door with a brighter color, but I didn't have time!  I'm planning to keep it up for March and April.  In April I will change the pots of gold to raindrops (April Showers)...

The Tiny Seed Response

So we are reading The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle this week.  We are going to touch upon sequencing and discuss how the story is a "circular" story.  I made up this sheet to use with them tomorrow.  There are two pages - the second being in color.  I hope it works for you as well!

Plant and Seeds

It seems as though many of the teachers who I "stalk" are ending school soon.  Well, we have until the end of June.... yuck! :(    So, I still have a few things to cover.  This weekend I planned a plant and seed unit to do over the next 2 weeks or so.  I'm posting a few pages on here, but I am also posting a larger packet over at TPT.  It has lessons connected to read alouds.  (The Giving Tree being one of them... one of favorite books!!)  It also has a math activity, writing activities, word study, science experiments, arts and crafts projects.  Hope you enjoy it!  I'll post pictures after the unit is over.

Wild Weather!

We have been having some pretty wild weather before the break.  It was supposed to be spring, but the weather has been very cold, windy, and foggy!  What a perfect time to learn about weather!

Here are some books we read:
Thunder CakeWild Weather: Level 1 (Extreme Readers) The Wind BlewWeather Words and What They MeanI

I absolutely love Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco and the students love to count along with the characters in between the lightning and thunder!  The students also loved to make text-to-self connections while reading.  They told some very cute stories about being scared of thunder.  We also recalled story elements in an interactive writing kind of way :)

The Windy Day was also a great book to read and respond to.  We read the book then charted what the wind would blow if they were out on a windy day.  Some of the responses we too funny (The wind blew my video game system)!  Then we imagined where our items would go using sequence words and preposition words.

For a quick inferring lesson, I had the kids pick any kind of weather and write three clues about it.  Then they partnered up, read the clues and made inferences based on the clues.  They had a lot of fun doing this activity.  Click on the link to get the worksheet:
